the hunt is on

the time has come... to at least start looking for apartments.  i can't believe it's almost been a year since mike and i moved into this place.  this huge "top of the world" place, where we knew right off the bat we'd be having some stellar parties here.  which we have... and have yet to host.  halloween should be nuts.

even though moving is a pain in the ass, expensive, time consuming and stressful in general.... i still kind of enjoy it.  i've seen a few places already that look great, even though they aren't for Jan 1.  i'm just getting into the swing of scouring my main online sources and staying on top of it all.  as much work as it is, i always manage to find cool places to live. 

this however.... will be my 6th apartment in 6 years.  yiiikes.  i do like the change.  but i wouldn't mind staying in a place for more than a year.  it would seem though, that my circumstances change dramatically roughly every 365 days.   this time however i'll be looking for a place all to myself.  which will be good.  i haven't done that in 3 years.  i didn't much like it back then, but things are so different now.  i'm excited. 

not much i can really do, except keep on top of things until dec 1 rolls around.... and then it's ON.

remember summer?

the past week or so has been relatively plain jane.  seems alot of people are sick.... or just working.  sounds like october to me.  there's not much happening at the moment, but there are things to look forward to.

first is the fort knox 5 show on friday.  i can't wait.  it's been ages since i danced my ass off.  i have that day off too.  perfect.

there is also halloween.  i need to get my costume for the bash.  man i need to get my act together in that department.  yikes!

once october is over, i'll be heading to vancouver for the galactic show.  yuss.  another night of dancing my ass off.  can't really have too many of those.  i guess maybe you can, but when the music is that good.... man oh man.  can't wait.

haven't been doing much music lately.  laura is sick  just like everyone else in this town it seems.  soon enough tho.  i'm still writing, as my new guitar is brilliant at helping me crank out new material.

weekend

for the first time in a while, i had the "weekend" off.  not only that but i had monday off as well.  i took this time and made the most of it.  as soon as the schedule was posted last week and i saw this, i started planning immediately.

this weekend was great.  it was GREAT i tell ya.  i partied,  saw old friends, hung out with new friends, went out for a delightful dinner, had great discussions, got my fair share of wii, played lots of music, wrote some fantastic new songs and...... bought a new guitar.  (yuss!)  i'll post a pic of her soon enough.

it's been a very social past few days.  which i love.  i've been toasting craig and his send off to indonesia for what seems like ages, but hey...... the guy's worth it. =)

it will be good to get back to work though, really.  it's been an expensive weekend.  with my new axe and all.  *gush*  it's SO beautiful.  she sounds fantastic and plays brilliantly.  i forgot how inspiring it is to buy a new guitar.  i love that it's brand new too.  it just arrived at the store yesterday.  so basically nobody has played it.  which i like.

it's got character, great feel and fantastic tone.   it's all mine.... and i plan on getting a whole lot out of it.

Olympic Insanity

as you have probably heard, 2010 olympic tickets are now on sale..... at ludicrous prices.  i can appreciate what the olympics are to an athlete though.  a chance to show the world how awesome you are at some obscure sport or combination of activities (biathalon!?)

it just seems like it's SO far out of hand these days.  some ticket prices are just so crazy, and people are taking out second mortgages on their houses to fly across the globe to watch somebody zing down a snow covered hill with two planks on their feet.

now i suppose maybe that sounds a little callous.  fair enough.  if my brother was on the olympic hockey team or something, i'd definitely want to see that.  so in that regard, i can appreciate people shelling out for it.

but everytime i see advertising for olympics, or when i look back on the recent games in beijing, i think about how much of it wasn't about the spirit of the games.  it's all about dumping trucks of money into the production of it all to outdo everything and everyone.  the massive olympic machine rolls into town, makes everyone insane about it all, then 14 days later... they're up and gone, leaving the host city and it's population wondering how they ever got along without the olympics in the first place.

i like the olympics tho.  i do.  they're fun to watch.

it just seems SO rediculous to me that olympic powers that be are trying to make it sound like some smokin' deal when they offer packages of 100 tickets for $300,000.  (heard it right from the Vancouver Olympic chairmans mouth on CBC.)

but alas... when the vancouver games start,  us islanders (denman included!) will be all a flutter with olympic fever.  if any of us are lucky enough to score tickets for something really worth watching, like the hockey... that will definitely be a great experience.

let's just hope you don't lose your shirt in the process.

don't get me wrong.  everybody is a nerd when it comes to something, and there are some very cool nerds in this world. some of them do great things and it's a pleasure when i get the opportunity to talk to those people should i get a chance to meet them.  there are nerds in every industry, and they are the folks who keep things up and running.  fantastic !!

however there are still THOSE nerds.  you know the ones i'm talking about.  the stereotypical, gangly, undersexed social retards who just don't get it.

i'm taking this opportunity, here and now to lay the cyber "smackdown" on a select group.  a few nerds the other day ALMOST made me get out of my chair, walk over to their table, and kindly ask them to shut the fuck up.

i was at demi-tasse enjoying a relaxing breakfast with my mom on a dreary thursday morning.  we had a quiet little corner table, until a group of 6 people sat down not far from us.  every single one of them armed with some sort of mobile hardware.  an iphone, blackberry, palm.... whatever!  hey you know what?  cool.  those things are useful and can be alot of fun.

.... i can even appreciate you wanting to add some of your favourite sounds onto the thing.  great.  go ahead.  but when you turn your goddamn device on and off over and over and over and over again, next to my breakfast table just so you can hear the opening and closing sounds of a light sabre... you better be prepared to face some very swift and painful social bitchslapping.
