it's taken some time... but i finally got outside, parked it in a good spot and took some shots of my scoot. so here it is. its name is "rowdy" as taken from my favourite show "scrubs." it seems somewhat ironically appropriate seeing as how it's a 50cc scooter and is about as far from rowdy as any vehicle could possibly be.
... but mostly it's a scrubs thing. =)
i don't even know if it's marble. it sure looks like it. i have been known to be wrong before. alot. but i'm ok with that. really. srsly.
i think this is the last of the legislature pictures i'll be posting. i took a whole heap, and as usual only got a handful of good ones. i might actually post another one of that fountain. a little close-up action. but we'll see.
i also keep meaning to get a picture of me on my scooter. but i need a clear day, and to set up my camera on the tripod and position myself on my scoot, and frame it up going back and forth etc... is kind of a pain in the ass. one day i'll get it done, and you'll see.
work has been allright... but it's still quite slow. i've been told things will be picking up in february, but it's impossible to tell for sure. i'm already a little sick of some of the things that are going on around there, but that's mainly because it's so sLow. brutal actually.
like any workplace there are some politics. it's funny how you never really notice them when you start a new job. everything is new... and it's just dandy to be out of your old job. but soon enough the new job becomes your regular gig, and it grinds just like anything else. ah well. that... it would seem is simply a part of life.
to get back into things a little more, i've updated my teaching resume. i've got a lead on a gig at the grand pacific doing some yoga, or maybe some sort of relaxation class. who knows until i go talk to them. it's got me thinking again about teaching more often. i'm going to see if i can get into the james bay community centre for a class once a week maybe. i kind of miss that kind of schedule. i mean, i really enjoy the one class i do have these days... but there was a point in my life where i was doing 10 a week. sometimes more. and that was in toronto with no car! i can't believe i actually did that for so long. the commutes were SUCH a pain in the ass.
but with the size of Victoria and my new wheeLs... anything is possible.
one of victoria's hidden gems. i first discovered this fountain when i was living in james bay with lindsay. but i didn't have the 30D then. now that i'm back in the JB with an ubercam, i went out one night and took this.
for the longest time i had no idea who this guy was. i had some ideas.... some good guesses but was never really sure. so who better to ask than someone who works at the legislature. so when they didn't know, i asked the late night security guard. and he told me for sure that it was George Vancouver. he was right too.
just noodling with my camera before the staff party last night. oddly enough, the best picture of the night is the one i took before i found the bar. hmmm. go figure.
every time there's a bash.... i go back and forth over whether i want to take my camera or not. if i do, i have to babysit it. i spend too much time working with settings and fighting the dim light vs. blurry and or grainy shots.
since i've upgraded from a 7 year old point and shoot to the Canon 30D (Yuss!) my old cammy is pretty much bust. so my high-end one is all i've got. i might look into another quickie point and shooter for such occasions. i still enjoy capturing moments and being able to document the fun.... but the vibe of the party and free flowin' fun always takes over my inner wannabe "professional photographer." when i'm out on an excursion for the purpose of great shots, i take tons of time for the right settings and i'm very patient so i can capture what i'm looking for.
but when i've got 2 girls in my lap dressed like vegas call-girls and i'm dressed like a priest..... i wanna be able to get that shot right away! dammit.
i'm just thankful we don't get as much rain and as many dreary days as vancouver. i know the sun is coming though. it's supposed to come out for a few days next week they say. Plus we're already halfway through january (almost!) and before ya know it march will be here. and in my books, march is the beginning of spring.
so i thought i'd post something bright and sunny. after rooting through the archives i came across this shot and it seemed like a good idea. the fact that it was totally overcast when i took this is irrelevant right? =)
happy to be back online and moved into my new place.... i've settled in nicely. most everything is set up and i'm getting into the groove of living on my own again.
the location is great, but i do feel a little out of the way. but that's ok. when the summer comes and i'm half a block from the ocean, i'll be an even happier camper. but for now, mobility is the issue. the day of the scooter is near!
because i have to ride it home from esquimalt, i'm waiting for a day that i have off, and a day that's not raining or frozen or snowing. getting all of these variables to line up on the same day isn't going to be easy. but we'll see. i just want to get it before the weather gets warmer and the price goes up.
.... time to make the first real breakfast in my new digs.
