spring is on its way... and that means patios! man i can't wait. there's nothing quite like sitting back, soaking up the sun and enjoying being outside in this gorgeous city while you sip the chilly local suds.

it's taken me about 6 years, but i finally finished. aparrently i don't read all that fast, but it's because i put it down for ages here and there, but it's over. whew!
i just finished the last book in the EPIC story that is the The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. 11 books, all roughly 800-1000 pages. like any good series though, i'm sad to see it end, but kind of thankful at the same time.
the last 200 pages of this last book were craaazy! so many things were coming together. it brought back characters from 6 books previous, which in my life was roughly... 3 or 4 years ago! now that i think about it..... i'm a little shocked that it's actually over. wow. i mean... really?
while in the middle of this monster, i had tried picking up other books, and just couldn't get into them.... mainly because i was so entrenched in these characters, that i just HAD to finish. now i can move on.
but srsly.... loved these books.
to all of my happily paired off friends.... (damn near all of them now!) i wish you all the best on this completely made-up flower pushing, chocolate munching hogwash of a day.
sure it sounds bitter. maybe it is. but i actually couldn't be happier these days. my life is completely stress free, things are running smoothly and are on track for the future. i just like to make a point of the silliness as i am valentineless again this year.
so for the rest of you are who are sans sweetheart..... i'll see you at the pub.

it's been a blustery day here in the JB. i might have to wander down to dallas road to get a good solid dose of mother nature's fury!
my christmas cactus has just over the past few days blossomed beautifully! i love this plant. it suits my living room perfectly, and makes for a great subject. i was going to head out for a little photogroffee with a friend, but he's not feelin' so hot... not to mention the current miserableness that is the weather. another time.
so for a fix, i've been playing with some new photography toys, and experimenting with light. now i don't have really anything to spend on new gear... as i'm saving for school, but mikey turned me on to this website. it's got all sorts of cheap do-it-yourself lighting hacks. i've made a ring flash out of a milk jug, and a party diffuser out of a business card. both of them work suprisingly well.
this one i used the milk jug, and i'll be honest... i did a little photoshopping too. i try to keep most of my images straight from the camera, but sometimes they need a little extra sumthin' sumthin'.
this one really leads the eye from left to right. and of couse, i love how it ends up at my speakers. damn those things sound awesome!
in a car... it's not much of an excursion. but on my Yamahawg, going from james bay out to the airport and back, is a long trip. of course i took the long and slow way, but that was the idea really.
cordova bay, island view beach, east saanich road... all fun to ride and not bad for photogroffee either. i didn't take as many shots as i would have liked, mainly because everytime i want to stop and shoot, i have to unpack my gear and take off all the shit i'm wearing!
but, when i go past something i think i can capture... i always stop. what else do i have to do out here in the middle of nowhere on my day off?
after three straight weeks of riding my scooter around town, i borrowed my moms car today to move some stuff. and wow! i can't believe how quickly i fell back into that sort of lazy mindlessness you get into when you drive. i mean, when you're in a car you SHOULD be attentive and aware, but there are alot of people who are not. i know... cos i see them coming a mile away now.
when i'm on my scoot, i'm constantly scanning and assessing situations and intersections, cos well.... my life depends on it. that may sound drastic, but that's as seriously as i take it.... as anyone on a motorized two wheel contraption should when in traffic.
today i saw a girl who could barely have been 17, driving one of those massive cadillac escalades, with giant black shades on her head, an iphone to her ear and in the other hand...... wait for it... had a starbucks coffee AND a lit cigarette while holding onto the wheel.
i swear..... kids today. =)
