i'm with the band

just like that the floodgates open!

so Athabasca Thrift has its first studio session on friday, and now we're also booked to play the Spinnakers Wine Bar in James Bay on April 16th. 

we have our set together, and will start serious rehearsals on thursday.  man i can't wait!  it's been SO long since i got in front of a crowd with a guitar.  although this time i won't have 700 watts of bass power strapped to my chest.  this will be broken down, acoustic rock/soul.  i'm stoked.

the nerves will be going for sure..... but it's gonna be awesome.
i can't wait.

top o' the bah humbug

i swear not all holidays make me grouchy.  actually  i wasn't grouchy at all today..... really.  but i didn't wear green,  wish anyone happy st. paddy's day,  go to the pub, or even have a beer for that matter.

i guess it's just that i really don't give a rats hat about it.  by the time i got off work at 7:30 every single pub in town i'm sure was just jammed.  and not only packed, but packed with loud, obnoxious, annhialated drunkards.

i mean, don't get me completely wrong, sometimes hanging out with loud, obnoxious, annhialated drunkards is alot of fun, but not on that scale thanks.

and besides.... i'll party when i feel like partying.  not when the calendar and some green weirdos say i should.

mindless tangents

a few weeks ago i found this really great writing application called "WriteRoom."  it blacks out the screen and just leaves you with a cursor and whatever coloured text you like.  it's awesome for blog posts, and just about anything i feel like writing.  with it i'm not distracted by emails, updates, msn... or anything else that tends to pop up and sidetrack me.

sometimes though, i like to fire it up and just start writing.  and i'm not talking about sitting there and thinking about what to write.... i'm talking about just typing and not stopping.  putting down anything that comes to mind and stringing them together with other words.

let me give an example:

here i am with a blank slate to type as i speak with my own mind and before i go to the place i want to be in i find myself thinking about how nothing is really there and i wonder why my upside down flight attendant is going to be with a monkey that is larger than a rather small zamboni.

oh yeah, and when i do this.... it's usually a huge run-on sentence too. =)

i don't know WHERE that came from though.  but because i'm able to type on a completely blank screen.... it's just me and the words.  nothing else.

ahh sunday morning.  my saturday. 

last night at work was nuts.  nuts i tell yoU!  trying to park a constant stream of incoming cars in 3 spots, while people are throwing keys at you in the piss pouring rain.... while NOBODY is tipping, isn't exactly the best day at work.  all the more reason to get into something else.  but all i can do is roll with it until school starts.  which i'm nervous about, but definitely looking forward too. 

i dropped off some more stuff for my application and paid another chunk of money, so i've got my seat reserved and i'm all signed up.  now i just need to work through most of the summer, then pack up my shit and move back to madmom's house and take on the role of thrifty student.  which resembles the role of thrifty musician.  hmmm.... not too much of a stretch for this guy. =)

well, it's rainy and blustery outside.  a little later on i'm meeting up with someone from work.... mabe we'll head down to the breakwater and check out the crashing waves or something.

even though on a day like today.... all i really want to do is lay on the couch with my book and plow through some chapter action.

i sort my photos by outings.... and this last excursion is titled "fisherman's wharf."  i would be lying if i said i took this at fisherman's wharf.  i did however take this on the way to the pub after freezing my ass off down at fisherman's wharf... so technically it counts.

like davin.... i'd rather not dump everything from my shoot into one post.  i don't know why.  it really does make more sense.  maybe i guess cos this way i can highlight each one.  i guess that could be it.

Fisherman's Wharf

after a long chilly excursion through James Bay and Fisherman's Wharf, i'm content with a number of shots that seem to tickle my fancy.  that's all I can really ask for.

i think i was due too.  the past few times i've gone out i've come back with nothing but crap destined for the desktop recycle bin.  this time i captured some magic.

i haven't been out for a shoot in ages, so i just dug around for some others i haven't posted.  again, not sure why this one didn't make the cut.

i am however heading out to shoot with a friend today, so hopefully i'll come back with some goodness.  the weather looks good which helps, but i'm not sure if i'll be able to shoot anything from those interesting angles as i'm pretty sore from my first snowboarding trip yesterday.

it was alot of fun and i really enjoyed myself.  by my last run i was carving pretty good and getting some good speed too.  i'm also pretty good at getting all twisted up with that damn board strapped to my feet, and then there's my specialty................... face plants. =)

i think it's good to go into the backlog of photos every once in a while to dig around.  you never know what gems you may have passed by while picking out what you thought were the good ones.
